Oaxaca

Oaxaca is located at the south of Mexico and guard always its ancestral traditions with its craft industry and its way of life. The valley of Oaxaca was called Huaxyacá by the Aztec ones (meaning close to the place of the acacias). As of 1521, the city was invaded by the Spaniards and in 1872 the city was renamed under the name of Oaxaca de Juárez, name of the brilliance statesman born in the area.

A splendid cathedral is to be visited: the church Santo Domingo which is the most prestigious expression of the Baroque art in Mexico and which was built by the Dominican ones between 1550 and 1600. There is also the valley of Oaxaca with the site arqueologic of Monte Albán which is very interesting.

Recently, this city turns to industrialization and tourism.
