Mexico City

This city was called Tenochtitlán which was the largest Aztec city (founded in 1325), and the largest city of Americas. It was built on an island of the Texcoco lake at the beginning of the 14th century. Rebuilt after the conquest of the Spaniards, it was renamed Mexico. In the medium of the 19th century, it had a great modernization.

After the devastations, caused by an epidemic of variola in 1520, Mexico City counted only 30 000 inhabitants. During four centuries, the city developed slowly until the moment when it had a demographic explosion at the beginning of 20th century, which greeted a big migratory flow. Mexico City passed from 1,6 million inhabitants in 1940 to more than 15 million in 1999.

The capital is a megalopolis where live more than 20 million people, which causes many problems of pollution, circulation, security and poverty. This city is indeed one of the cities where there is a lot of criminals (5 to 10 murders per day) and where police officers corruption is often practiced. Unfortunately, this city is located in a seismic zone, and dominated by the famous volcano, the Popocatépetl (5452 m), volcano always in activity which eruption could put in danger the city.

But this does not remove the beauty of this capital and the cordial greeting of the Mexicans.

We propose you a visit of this city to you.
