Veracruz

Veracruz is a port with a great historical importance for Mexico. It is the place where the colonizer Hernan Cortés unloaded for the first time into 1519, the day of Vera Cruz (True Cross), for the colonization of the country. This city, which were the symbol of power, force and size of the New-Spain, were worth to it the title of Villa Rica of Veracruz. Later, this port was victim of many attacks, starting with Spanish in 1825, French in 1839 and Americans in 1847 and 1914. Therefore this city has the merit to be named the heroic city four times because it resisted all these attacks.

Nowadays, Veracruz is a large and coloured city in the Gulf of Mexico. Indeed, it is a port with a lot of ambience and is animated by many streets spectacles, players of marimbas who put joy in the streets. Veracruz is also the most significant port of Mexico. The State is indeed very agricultural because it is a large producer of sugar cane, coffee, rice, of frijoles as well as tobacco (Veracruz produces the best cigars of the country). This State offers beautiful beaches but also archeological sites. Indeed, it was habited by three different cultures: Huastecas, Totocanas and Olmecas. Many archeological vestiges can be admired with the complementarity of the museum of Anthropology of Jalapa.
